Parenting with Love and Limits
For several years, Lena Pope Home has implemented the Parenting with Love and Limits® program. This program is evidence based, and helps youth ages 1
0 through 17. The PLL program has effectively improved instances of:
- Persistent lying
- Extreme disrespect
- Truancy
- Physical aggression
- Property destruction
- Running away
- Threats of suicide
The goal of Parenting with Love and Limits® is to strengthen the family, and reestablish what may have been lost from disruptive behavior. This goal is accomplished with a combination of individual-based learning and family learning. During six weeks of classes, the youth and their families attend group sessions that typically meet together for the first half, and then separate into student-only and parent-only sessions for the second half. This allows the family to build skills both individually, and together as a unit.
Individual families also receive 4-6 “coaching” sessions which provide an opportunity to work with the therapist in further developing and implementing new skills learned in the group sessions.
The family will develop up a “contract” that will guide their future interactions in a positive way. The making of the contract has proved to be very helpful to families in learning to connect with one another. The PLL program also ensures that the family has many resources to use, if needed, to restore a nurturing environment to the home.
While many of the Parenting with Love and Limits participants are referred to Lena Pope Home by Tarrant County Juvenile Services or the Attendance Court, the PLL program is also open to the public. For more information please call 817-266-2652 or click HERE.
