Highlights from the 2010 - 2011 School Year

 

  • CHA announced new motto:  “CHA students are University Bound!”
  • 3rd grade was added to the school, making it the 1st year for CHA to administer TAKS.
  • 371 students in Pre-K thru 3rd grade were served this school year.
  • Over 150 parents volunteered their time to CHA.
  • 1st -3rd grade students accessed Study Island, a web-based,  TAKS formatted computer curriculum in the school’s computer lab and from home.
  • Over 12 students were recognized as having the highest scores in the state of Texas in Study Island Math or ReadiP1010525.JPGng Assessments.
  • Student enrollment and attendance maintained an average of 97%.
  • PTA raised over $13,000 in candy sales and paid for Kindergarten - 3rd grade field trips.
  • Students in 1st -3rd grade were culturally enlightened when they attended performances at the Bass Performance Hall.
  • Kindergarteners had a hands-on field trip to the Museum of Science & History.
  • The PE coaches hosted Jump Rope for Heart where students raised over $1,500 and presented the check to the American Heart Association.
  • The inaugural Gifted & Talented class of students in 1st – 3rd grade hosted a penny drive at the school, in hopes of purchasing new library books.  They raised over $700.
  • The Gifted & Talented class also completed a study on Georgia O’Keefe and created  art pieces based on her work.  Posters of their art work were presented to donors.
  • Walmart Corporation selected CHA to honor 10 teachers who received $100 gift cards for classroom supplies.
  • An anonymous donor brought the Fort Worth Opera’s production of “Little Red’s Unusual Day” to CHA for the students to experience an opera.
  • Students were visited by a mobile dairy where they learned about dairy farmers and milk production.
  • The Fort Worth Zoo partnered with CHA 3rd grade students on a Turtle Watch program where students learned about and observed turtle habitats in area ponds.
  • Commissioner Roy Brooks was a Reading Friend to 1st graders and served as a judge for the Dr. Seuss Day Parade.
  • CHA students’ photos were featured in “Tell Me Something Good” on  Channel 5 for their Dr. Seuss Day Parade.
  • CHA 3rd grade students made a batch of Rice Krispy Treats for the Texas Rangers game announcers and were spotlighted during a Ranger Game in May.
  • Family Academic events held this year included:  Trunk or Treat, Literacy Day, Dr. Seuss Parade, Family Math & Science Night, Family Fun & Field Day,  and Holidays Around the World – International Festival.
  • After school enrichment programs offered:  Tae Kwon Do, Mad Science,  dance classes – ballet, jazz and hip hop, Chess Club, Golf Club, Recycle Club, Ladies & Gentlemen of Distinction, Art Club, Eagle Artists, Soaring Eagle Choir, P1010780.JPGprivate music lessons, academic tutorials, and a puppetry workshop.
  • Members of the Golf Club were guests at the PGA Golf Tournament at Colonial.
  • Ladies & Gentlemen of Distinction had their year- end dinner hosted by Lanny’s Alta Cocina, who exclusively opened the restaurant for these students and their families.
  • Eagle Artists designed clay pottery dishes which were auctioned off at Fiesta De Oro.
  • The Soaring Eagle Choir performed at the 20th Anniversary of the Marty Leonard Chapel.
  • CHA’s 1st Annual Talent Show featured student performers ranging from dancers to vocalists, pianists, poets, and magicians.
  • Kindergarteners celebrated Earth Day by making “Don’t Mess with Texas” projects using recycled materials they collected from home.
  • 1st graders embarked on their first of many research projects and made their debut in public speaking when they individually presented their “Animal Projects”.
  • 2nd & 3rd graders demonstrated their latest scientific inventions and projects in the CHA 2nd Annual Science Fair.
  • Kindergarten participated in Slant 45, a community service project for Super Bowl.
  • Kindergarten students hosted Mayor Mike Moncrief  as a Reading Friend and presented him with a “Key to CHA – Where the Best Begin!”
  • 3rd grade students hosted Rosie Moncrief as a Reading Friend.
  • The Moncriefs’ sponsored CHA students and families in the 5K HopeWalk downtown, celebrating Slant 45 and the Super Bowl on the morning of the game.
  • Over 20 Reading Friends visited CHA classrooms to share their favorite stories.
  • American Airlines and Team Building USA selected 80 surprised CHA students to receive brand new bicycles and helmets at the Omni Hotel in downtown Fort Worth.5.JPG
  • Professional Women’s Golfer – Angela Stanford gave a motivational speech to 3rd graders who were gearing up for TAKS.
  • A TAKS Pep Rally and Pancake Breakfast was held for the 3rd Grade TAKS takers.
  • Preliminary TAKS Reading scores result in 91% met standard with 38% reaching Commended Performance and TAKS Math scores result in 85% met standard with 25% reaching Commended Performance.
  • Superintendent, Todd Landry held up his end of the Third Grade TAKS Challenge  by participating in an obstacle course in front of the entire student body after preliminary TAKS scores indicate that CHA will be RECOGNIZED!
