Music and Spanish

Music

In music, Chapel Hill students will develop their singing voice (also their gross motor skills and social skills) through singing songs and playing games. The basic concepts of beat and rhythm are experienced first, practiced and finally labeled. All subsequent learning is built on these competencies.

Musical Skills

Part singing, Playing instruments (non-pitched percussion, barred instruments, drums, recorder, keyboard), reading and writing music notation,  improvisation (of movement, rhythm, melody and language) and composition.

Monday, December 12: Holidays Around the World- Choir to Perform

February 27: 1st and 2nd grade Music Program

May 21: Pre-K and K Music Program

Choir

Students in grades 2-4 have the opportunity to perform in the Soarin' Eagles Choir. Participation in Choir is voluntary and by audition. Rehearsals are one Wednesdays 3:15-4:10. Auditions will be held the week of Labor Day. Rehearsals will start September 14

Music Grading

Grades will be recorded each six-week grading period. Students will receive one conduct grade. Conduct grades are based on attitude, participation and behavior. Conduct grades are on an E, S, N, U grading scale

E=Excellent, S= Satisfactory, N= Needs Improvement, U= Unsatisfactory

Spanish

Spanish is a new addition to Chapel Hill's enrichment classes this year. Spanish instruction will be integrated as part of every Music lesson through songs, books and other activities.

Objectives

The students will be able to:

  1. Tell what their names are.
  2. Exchange greetings and express how they are feeling.
  3. Identify colors and provide information about colors around them.
  4. Count to ten and provide information about how many there are of a given number of objects.
  5. Identify shapes and provide information about the number of sides of each shape.
  6. Tell what day it is.
  7. Tell what month it is.
  8. Tell what season it is.
  9. Tell what the weather is like.
  10. Identify the major body parts.
  11. Identify clothing and provide information about the clothing they and others are wearing.
  12. Identify different family members.
  13. Engage in conversation by using phrases and commands associated with bedtime and waking up.
  14. Provide information about where something or someone is located.
  15. Express their opinions about whether they like something or not.
