In September 2007, Lena Pope Home received one of three new charters awarded that year for the state of Texas, by the Texas Education Agency (TEA). This charter enabled Lena Pope Home to open a public charter school, Chapel Hill Academy (CHA), on August 25, 2008. The vision of Chapel Hill Academy is to offer a rigorous and enriching learning experience for all students, to inspire critical thinking and nurture a respect for self and others. In its first year (2008-2009), Chapel Hill Academy was made up of pre-kindergarten, kindergarten, and first grade classes. Second grade was added in the 2009-2010 school year and third grade was added in the 2010-11 school year. Fourth grade will be added in the fall of the 2011-12 school year and fifth grade will complete the school in the 2012-13 school year.

Chapel Hill Academy provides a structured and innovative environment built on the belief that all children can excel, and their time at CHA is their first step toward a college degree. Through the power of a positive learning environment, the students are given a strong foundation that will prepare them for a future of success.
For eighty years, Lena Pope Home has been providing services to youth. Through these experiences, Lena Pope Home has learned that when children have a foundation of academic and education excellence they can reach their potential and experience success.
Every student who begins their education at Chapel Hill Academy is encouraged to be a goal setter and realize their fullest potential. This means that the path to a college education begins on their first day at CHA. Regardless of socioeconomic or family background, the opportunity to advance through secondary education is an attainable goal.
