Defiant Child Program
An evidence-based program culturally adapted for the families of African American children ages 2-12 years of age who reside in the 76119 or 76105 zip codes and meet the diagnostic criteria for AD/HD and/or Oppositional Defiant Disorder. This community based program offers families an assessment and parent training using the Defiant Child Parent Training Model and all services are home-based and free of charge. Funded through the Hogg Foundation.
In 2006 Lena Pope Home received funding from the University of Texas- Austin and Hogg Foundation for Mental Health as apart of the Cultural Adaptation Initiative. As a result of receiving this funding Lena Pope Home was presented with the opportunity to culturally adapt an evidence based program. Lena Pope Home chose to implement the evidence based Defiant Child parenting model with African American children and families. The Defiant Child model is most effective when used with children between the ages of 2 and 12 years old who have a diagnosis of Attention Deficit/ Hyperactivity Disorder, Oppositional Defiant Disorder, or who are displaying symptoms associated with these disorders.
