Dr. Seuss Birthday
On Tuesday, March 2, 2010 Chapel Hill Academy celebrated Dr. Seuss’ birthday and the National Education Association's (NEA) Read Across America Day . Launched ten years ago as a way to get kids excited about reading, NEA's Read Across America has grown into a year-long program that culminates every year on Dr. Seuss's birthday on March 2. The teachers and education support professionals of Chapel Hill Academy wanted to get the word out about the importance of children's literacy. Kids who read, and who are read to, are more successful in school and in life. Each class from Pre-K to 2nd. grade incorporated Dr. Seuss into their lesson plans for the day (examples: write a class poem, class book, etc.) Many of our wonderful parents and community leaders took time off to come in and read a Dr. Seuss book to the students. Lunch was both delicious and colorful. Most of the students enjoyed tasting green eggs and ham.We also had a hat parade judged by special guest judges Channel 5 News Anchor/Reporter Deborah Ferguson and School Superintendent Todd Landry. Each class chose their favorite Dr. Seuss book and created hats and a poster using the characters in the book. The winning class in each grade level received ribbons and a popcorn party.
